History of the Cup

The annual EuroGay Cup was started in 2001 and has previously been held in Vinkeveen (Netherlands), Paris, Berlin and Cowes UK). Competitors have entered from the UK, Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany the USA and Australia. Sailing is a growing sport in the gay community and was included in the Gay Games in Sydney 2002 and Chicago 2006. The EuroGay Cup is one of a trio of annual gay sailing regattas held in Europe, the USA and Australia endorsed by the international gay sailing organisation, GLORY.

In the 2006 EuroGay Cup Regatta was held in Germany, with the UK team winning the event and hosting the 2007 competition in Brighton.

This year the competition will return to Brighton on 6th to 7th September 2008, and build on the success of the 2007 regatta.

This year it will organised by the winners of the 2007 event and hosted by SailnetUK and Hove Lagoon Watersports
